Acorn Childcare Centre

At Acorn Childcare Centre we provide a high quality, safe and caring environment for your child regardless of ethnic origin, gender, religion or disability.  We will nurture your child's development through play.

Set within the grounds of Malcolm Sargent Primary School this purpose-built nursery is designed around the needs of the children.  Staff at the setting are highly qualified and regularly trained to ensure that they meet the highest current standards of care.  The setting runs for 51 weeks of the year, from 7.30am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday.  It is closed between Christmas and New Year.

The Nursery

The setting is divided into three carefully tailored rooms.  We have a calm natural theme running thoughout our provision.  All children will follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFS).

Baby Room - Caters for children aged 6 weeks to 2 year.  The room has been designed with soft colours and natural materials.

Toddler Room - For those children aged 2 to 3 years.  Treasure baskets, full of natural materials, are a feature of this room.

Pre-school Room - Has been designed to allow our children to access a wide range of well-organised activities, as well as free-flow play.

Breakfast, Afterschool and Holiday Club

We will offer a range of activities for your children, which will vary on a daily basis.

Breakfast Club - Runs from 7.30am until the start of school, children will be escorted to class by staff.  Children will be encouraged to sit together and eat breakfast.  The morning starts with quiet activities for all children.

Afterschool Club - All children will be collected form their classes by staff at the end of the school day, they will be provided with afternoon snack and a drink.  The afternoon will be organised to offer a variety of activities inside and outside.  The session finishes at 6pm.

Holiday Club - Will operate during all school holidays with the exception of the week between Christmas and New Year.  A variety of different themed activities will be planned for children on a daily basis.

We are very pleased to announce that during our first Ofsted inspection we were graded 'Good.'
The inspector highlighted some excellent and outstanding practices within the setting and this included:
Children are protected because the staff have a good understanding of local safeguarding procedures and value children's safety at all times.
The head of childcare and the manager are motivated and passionate about what they do and clearly love their job.  As a result, the staff team are inspired to work well together, creating a warm and welcoming environment.
Teaching is good overall, with some excellent and outstanding elements.
Staff provide good opportunities for babies to have a range of first hand, sensory experiences to explore and investigate.
There is breadth and depth to the curriculum and children have good opportunities to play and learn.
