Handwriting
To improve writing across the school, a handwriting progression policy has been put in place. Our pupils will work through the stages of handwriting and will be awarded a certificate and a new pencil or pen. Replacement pens or pencils cost 50p.
Most children begin with emergent writing which are simple marks on a page but to which children ascribe meaning. Writing then progresses through the following stages:
· Legible letters following a line
· Correctly formed letters sitting on a line
· Most letters formed correctly
· All letters formed correctly
· Starting to join letters together
· Many letters joined together correctly
· Neat letters, on the line, joined consistently and correctly
The attached Handwriting Progression document shows how children's writing develops and the guidelines at each stage.
