Starting School

To help your child settle easily into their new school and class, we have created a booklet which is aimed specifically at the children joining us in Foundation.  It features "Louis" who shows the children around the school and is full of pictures and colour to fire their imagination.

In addition we usually have an information evening for parents in May before their children join us.  We have open afternoons for four weeks of the summer term when you are welcome to come into school with your child who can explore and play in the department and borrow a book from our libary.

We normally arrange for the Foundation Stage children to start school two days after the other children thus allowing the teachers and TAs from that department to carry out home visits.  This is an excellent way for us to meet your child again on a one-to-one basis and for them to remember our faces when they join us.  All our Foundation Stage children join us on a full time basis immediately - we do not have half days for new starters.

Additionally we try to hold a curriculum information session in about the October after your child has joined us.  This allows us to explain to you how we teach numeracy and literacy to your child, using number bonds and phonics.

You may also find it helpful to look around the website for information on school uniform, times for the start and end of the school day, the school calendar etc.

Please contact Mrs Perry, the Foundation Stage Phase Leader, via the school office if you have any questions.
