- WRITING - INCORPORATING SPELLING PUNCTUATION AND GRAMMAR (SPAG)
At Malcolm Sargent School, spellings are taught using the very successful Read Write Inc method from Year 2 onwards. This system uses daily sessions to teach children their spellings and then follows up using a method to embed the knowledge. For more information on the Read Write Inc method please see the attached documents below.
Children in Year 1 and below continue to use the phonics method for their spellings.
In some year groups (Y2-Y5) high frequency spellings are also set and tested weekly in line with the focus of the new National Curriculum.
